My trip to Mammoth Mountain, California

A great open mountain scene in the middle of the Sierra Nevadas.

The mountain runs south to northeast and most of the mountain faces east/northeast. However parts of the  Canyon lodge and almost all of Eagle lodge side face mostly South. This is the side that gets the most sun and will soften up nice if there is not a lot fresh snow to ski. There are peaks that run that direction and peaks in between those peaks. Most of the terrain is blue square or intermediate riding capability level. However there are some black diamonds or advanced trails mixed in. Especially when you take the higher lifts to the peaks above the lower peaks. At these altitudes you will find mostly steeper terrain, either covered in moguls or are the steeper groomed trail type. There is usually an easier way down that is a thinner trail that winds down the backside and around the peak. Keeping the steepness to a level where they call it a green or beginner trail level. The above picture shows the Eagle lodge side and the vast open glades on that side of the mountain. My Favorite! This side is great for all levels and there is steep chutes and moguls, to gradual open smooth declines. Good for the whole family to enjoy.

This picture shows the one and only gondola spanning one mid level peak to the upper peaks above. It is a good way to get from all the way to the bottom to all the way to the top. However get on it early as it is one of the first lifts to close in the afternoon.
